Kayaking at GinnyLu

Croton Pond and the Muskegon River are great waters for kayaking. To access the Muskegon River from GinnyLu, put in at the dock, paddle under the bridge and towards Croton Dam.  Watch for the Portage sign near the public boat ramp.  There is an easy portage to the Muskegon River.

The Muskegon River is a designated trout stream, so if you plan to fish the river make sure you have an 'all species' or trout stamp on your current fishing license. The fish love crayfish! And worms! And many other things fishermen and women can throw at them!  Have fun and good luck!

Spot a car at one of the end points. If you want the shorter kayak trip, park your car at the county boat launch: High Rollway. There is a sign indicating where to turn from Highway 82.  This is a county park and there is now a park entrance fee.  There are daily rates and a season rate. If you want a longer kayak trip, park your car at the Henning Park Campground just before the city of Newaygo. This campground has a parking lot where you can spot a car. There is a parking fee here as well.  This spot is accessed from Croton-Hardy Road (cross Croton Dam and keep on going! There is a park sign.)

Croton Pond is great for fishing from a kayak, too. It is NOT a designated trout stream so no special fishing license is needed. You can paddle up the Little Muskegon River for serene surroundings and good fishing. There is a resident eagle in that area; perhaps you'll see him! Head straight out from the dock at GinnyLu.  If it is windy out, your trip back will be more work!

Enjoy your kayak adventures!

There is one bedroom, plenty of floor space for air mattresses (on site), washer and dryer. The driveway can park four cars comfortably. The dock (not shown) can accommodate a boat. Seawall provides easy access to the dock, the water and shore fishing. There is also a fire pit between the cottage and the deck. A gas grill and a charcoal grill are on site.
